Are you thinking about turning your bedroom into a beachy retreat? I’m planning to do just that, and I’ve gathered some ideas to help create that calming, coastal feel. Think soothing colours, natural textures, and a cosy, clutter-free space. 

Embrace Wall Panelling for a Coastal Vibe

I’m starting with the walls. Wall panelling is an excellent way to introduce a beachy feel. I’m thinking about light, whitewashed panels, or potentially shiplap. This texture will add depth and warmth, making the room instantly inviting and reminiscent of the coast.

Fall in Love with White Linen Fabrics

White linen is essential for achieving that airy, beachy vibe. It’s light, breathable, and effortlessly chic. I plan to dress the bed in crisp white linen sheets and pillowcases. Not only do they look stunning, but they’ll also keep me cool during warm nights. I’ll add a white linen throw or cushion for extra texture and comfort (and as a place for the cats to hang out!)

Add a Touch of Elegance with Brass Accents

Brass accents can add a touch of elegance without overwhelming the space. I’m thinking brass bedside lamps, picture frames, or drawer handles. The warm tones of brass will complement the cool, airy colours of a coastal theme beautifully. Those little details should make a big difference.

Go Bold with Blue on the Walls

I’m sticking with white walls but for a striking, beach-inspired look, you could consider going blue on the walls. A rich navy or a vibrant turquoise could make a stunning statement, reminiscent of the deep ocean or the clear sky. Pairing bold blue walls with white or neutral accents should balance the look. 

Keep Things Clutter-Free

A beachy bedroom should feel open and clutter-free. I’m planning to embrace minimalism and keep surfaces clear, only displaying items that enhance the coastal aesthetic. This bedroom will be in the loft so we’re planning on getting custom eaves storage built to neatly tuck everything away. Less clutter means more space to relax and breathe.

Create a Cosy Reading Corner

Creating a cosy corner to curl up with a good book is essential for me. I’m thinking about setting up a comfy armchair with plenty of cushions and some built-in shelves for books. I’m certain this little corner will quickly become my favourite spot in my house.

Set the Mood with Lighting

Mood lighting is crucial for creating a relaxing atmosphere. Soft, warm lights will make the bedroom feel cosy and inviting. I’m planning to use bedside lamps, dimmable down lights and a few well-placed battery-powered candles to create that cosy beach house vibe.
